Street

One cannot define Street Photography in words. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is a thousand photos that define street photography for me.

Congratulations if your work makes it in here. I don't fav everything.

Update

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 9, 2009, 1:30 AM
So I feel like I need to update this.
I notice I haven't been doing it lately.
My last journal is over a month old.

Lately, I've been working on lots of school, photoj, and drum crops.
I got back from the June camp for the Oregon Crusaders this weekend. More than half of the corps was gone because of either the Rose Parade in Portland, or Graduation. So I'm looking forward to re-learning all 15+ sets of drill at 184 BPM that we covered this camp.
That was sarcastic.

However, as much as that is annoying, I'm really excited for tour this year.
I don't like the music for the show, but I like the drill so far, and the show concept: Equilibrium.
If you are around any show sites when we perform, come see us! Our schedule is on oregoncrusaders.org and is under Schedule.
We have a July 2nd performance in Autzen Stadium in Eugene (Considering it my homeshow!), as well as a performance in Tri Cities, Seaside, and Hillsboro.

I was published a third (and final) time in the Oregon Daily Emerald a few weeks ago.
Wasn't as much hype as the last few times I was published, despite it being a lot more "successful" than those.
I had 1 photo front page, above the fold, a square closeup front page below the fold, and a third vertical on the next page.
Not bad.
I get paid for it too, but it's only like $8/photo.

Also something new that I haven't told anyone on dA; I'm working next year to get my residency status in Oregon. Soon to be an official Oregonian!
Well, in a year.
I'm only taking one class per term, and working full time. Hopefully I'll have a photographer job on top of that as well.
After tour I may be teaching at McCay High School in Salem, Oregon. I'll be a visual tech for their marching band, under the direction of my great drum corps friend, Kenny. That is, if I get the job.
If I do, I move down to Oregon just a few days after I get home from tour.
If I don't, then I move down to Oregon on September 10th.
Either way, I have about 2 weeks in Washington total, so that may be sad news for you Bainbridge kids reading this.
Sorry.

On an art standpoint, you probably won't be seeing that much street from me anymore.
I don't really like it that much.
I'll still help anyone who wants help, even though I know I'll just bash your work. That's how I was taught from a personal trainer, and that's how I'll teach individuals as well. Tough :D
To me, street photography seems like the same thing over and over. It has such an existential view on life, and even though I'm certainly an existentialist, I just think the style of street photography that depicts existential thinking is best suited for hormonal teens.
No offense ^bQw and `Obsidian-Fox; I don't consider either of your works like that. You guys are different. :D

So on that note, I'd like to declare my official field Photojournalism. Not that far from Street photography, however it has a practical output, and can actually be sold.
I'm sure I'll start street again once I get a steady PJ job and am an actual "working photographer" by `cweeks' definition.

Last, and unfortunately not least, this week is my last week of Freshman Year at UO. It's finals week.
Fuck.
But all in all I'm really unhappy to be leaving Eugene, despite how much I miss the Rock right now. I'm gonna miss Burgess (my dorm) a lot, but at the same time I'm really excited to move in to my own apartment.
I just finished the lease signing process today with my room mate Chris. The great part about it, just above us will be two other apartments with people from Burgess 1st floor. So we'll all pretty much stay connected.

So I'm betting my next update will either be right after our Northwest Tour, or after our last tour.
I have a week break inbetween, which is very unorthodox.
However, i will have my blackberry on tour. But sadly, deviantART doesn't really work well on the phone, so I'll really only be using facebook and stuff. So I'll be able to respond to things there.
Have a great summer, everyone. I know I will! Keep an eye out for the Oregon Crusaders in the news; hopefully I'll be coming back with a 1st place ring.

deviantID

Welcome to my page.
I'm Tom, aka Achillies875. I've been photographing for about 7 years, and 4 years digitally. I mainly shoot street photography / social documentary, but I also do any other type of photography for pay; for example, concerts & musicians, photojournalism, portraits, sports, etc.
I enjoy all art! Abstract, expressionist, and postmodern paintings are my favorite trad style.

I'm currently enrolled in the University of Oregon in Eugene, where I will be going after my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography.

Hi! I completely forgot to thank you for suggesting my deviation for DD last year, it suddenly occurred to me today.

i dont intend to be appreciated for the art I suggest. It's you that should get the attention ;)

When deciding whether to buy a Nikon or a Canon there really is only one difference: a clockwise or counter-clockwise zoom. Choose wisely.
